Central Georgia 48th Units Return Next Week

Several hundred members of Central Georgia Army National Guard units will return from Afghanistan next week.

The units are scheduled to fly into Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah on Monday and Wednesday, according to Lt. Col. George Fisher of the 48th Brigade.

About 3,000 members of the Macon-based 48th Brigade have been in Afghanistan for most of the past year, training Afghan public-safety units.

These units are scheduled to arrive:

  • The Macon-based Headquarters Battalion.
  • The Macon-based Brigade Special Troops Battalion
  • The Forsyth-based 148th Brigade Support Battalion.
