FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- About 125 soldiers assigned to the 14th Combat Support Hospital unit are back at Fort Benning after a yearlong deployment to Iraq.
Since last July, the soldiers of the 14th, who came home Wednesday, conducted health support operations at several internment facilities and cared for detainees and coalition forces.
The unit is equipped to care for up to 248 casualties.
This was the 14th's second deployment to southwest Asia. While in Afghanistan in 2006, the unit treated U.S. and coalition force soldiers and Afghan civilians.
In 2005, the unit deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and provided medical support for six weeks.
