FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) -- The Army says a gunman demanding
behavioral treatment took three workers hostage at Fort Stewart's military hospital before surrendering to authorities.
No one was injured in the short standoff early Monday at Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart.
Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson says the gunman, who was carrying four firearms, is a former soldier.
His name has not been released.
Larson says the gunman entered the hospital at about 4 a.m. Monday and took three hospital employees hostage on the building's third floor.
He says the gunman told workers he wanted treatment for behavioral problems.
One of the hostages, an Army officer who is a nurse, helped police talk the gunman into surrendering peacefully.
