House fire kills two children, injures mother and a fourth person, in Butts County

Two children were killed and their mother seriously injured in a Friday afternoon house fire in Butts County.

According to Butts County Sheriff Gary Long, the children were ages 2 and 3. Their mother was air lifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with sever burns.

According to the state fire commissioner's office, a fourth person was also injured in the fire.

Long said deputies arrived before firefighters and rescued the mother through the back door, but were unable tor reach the children.

The fire happened aat 131 Valley Road in Jackson. The house's interior was heavily damaged, Long said, while the brick exterior showed less damage.

The fire started around 3 pm and officials are working to determine its cause.
