Alleged texts from a mother who claimed to have choked her infant child and left her in the woods led to her arrest by the Jones County Sheriff's Department Monday.

A release from Jones County states that investigators were alerted to the case involving Laurel mother Santangela Turner, 26, by Child Protective Services.

A report forwarded to detectives had complaints from a witness who had allegedly received text messages from Turner stating she had choked the infant with a car charger and left her in the woods next to the apartment complex where Turner lived.

Turner also allegedly sent pictures showing a white cord around the infant’s neck, accompanied by another text threatening harm to the child, authorities said.

Additional pictures were allegedly sent showing Turner pulling the cord around the infant’s neck and the infant crying, as well as a picture of the baby lying on her back and a knife pointed at the baby’s neck.

A warrant was issued for Turner's arrest on charges of felonious child abuse. She turned herself into authorities on Monday.

Her initial appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at 1pm at Jones County Justice Court.
