GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL PRONOUNCED GEORGIA STRONG AND READY TO MOVE FORWARD TONIGHT IN HIS ANNUAL STATE OF THE STATE SPEECH DELIVERED TO MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE..
THE GOVERNOR TOUCHED ON A VAREITY OF ISSUES INCLUDING JOB CREATION..SETTING MONEY ASIDE FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS AND CREATING A MORE EFFECTIVE CORRECTIONS SYSTEM THAT REHABILITATES PEOPLE..
Gov. Nathan Deal:....If we lock up an eighteen-year-old who has no skills and is unemployable; where will that individual be after completing a 15-year stint behind bars? Without a new approach that brings hope back into the equation, we will have spent $270,000 and then have a 33-year-old with no skills who is more dangerous and even less employable than before. We can do better and with your help we will!
THE GOVERNOR SAID THE STATE'S RAINY DAY FUND STANDS AT 328 MILLOIN DOLLARS..A 183 PERCENT INCREASE FROM ONE YEAR AGO..BUT HE ADDED THERE IS STILL ROOM TO GROW..
Gov. Nathan Deal:....WITH A SLUGGISH GLOBAL ECONOMY WE STILL FACE CHALLENGES, BUT WE ARE BEGINNING TO SEE INDICATIONS THAT THINGS ARE STABILIZING. GEORGIA'S REVENUES TRENDS HAVE STRENGTHENED OVER THE LAST 18 MONTHS AND WITH SUSTAINED GROWTH OF THIS ORDER, I BELIEVE REAL JOB CREATION IS MUCH CLOSER THAN IT WAS WHEN WE MET ON THIS OCCASION ONE YEAR AGO. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THE STATE OF OUR STATE IS STRONG!
THE GOVERNOR ALSO PUT 55 POINT 8 MILLOIN DOLLARS IN HIS BUDGET TO FUND SALARY INCREASES FOR TEACHERS BASED ON TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE..

THE CITY IS TAKING BIDS FOR WORK TO RESTORE THE BAY GALL CREEK.. THIS WEEK.
THE E-P-D STARTED CHECKING OUT THE ISSUE LAST SPRING... WHEN SOME NEIGHBORS COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CITY'S DREDGING.
THE E-P-D RULED THE CITY SHOULD'VE ASKED FOR PERMITS TO DREDGE... BECAUSE THEY CLASSIFY IT AS A CREEK.
THE CITY SAID THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A DITCH... AND MAINTAINED IT AS SUCH FOR YEARS.. WITHOUT PERMITS.
THE ISSUE WILL END UP COSTING THE CITY ABOUT 90-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR FINES... TRAINING FOR ENGINEERS AND RESTORATION OF TREES AND PLANTS TO THE AREA.
NEIGHBOR TO THE BAY GALL... DICK HAMILTON... SAYS HE WANTS THE HABITAT RESTORED BUT IS UPSET ABOUT THE BILL TO TAXPAYERS.
Dick Hamilton, Warner Robins: (11:50) "The city had a different idea of what the Bay Gall was and what the state defined it. There should've been conversations there and trying to resolve it without $90,000.
GRAY SAYS THE E-P-D ESTIMATES THE RESTORATION TO THE BAY GALL WILL COST ABOUT 30-THOUSAND DOLLARS.
THEY WON'T KNOW FOR SURE.. UNTIL THE CITY OPENS SEALED BIDS FROM CONTRACTORS THIS THURSDAY.
GRAY SAYS THE WORK SHOULD BE FINISHED BY MID-FEBRUARY... AND THE E-P-D WILL MONITOR PROGRESS.
TWO CENTRAL GEORGIA COLLEGES WILL BECOME ONE WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS.
THE STATE'S BOARD OF REGENTS TODAY APPROVED THE MERGER OF MACON STATE COLLEGE... AND MIDDLE GEORGIA COLLEGE IN COCHRAN.

(--SOT: Bryan Deaner, Brand Manager Intel---)
"We're doing about 60 designs, coming out this year in 2012, so you're going to see a range in price points. I think one of the interesting things around affordability though you're going to have touch on these as well so you're going to act both a laptop and a tablet in one device called Ultrabook."
(---STANDUP: Bigad Shaban, CBS News---)
And now smart TV's work with your phone or tablet. With just a swipe - you can bring up videos and pictures ....or search the web...and ur handheld device becomes a mouse. And you never have to leave the couuch.
BIG NAME MANUFACTURES ARE ALSO UNVEILING THEIR OWN LINE OF THIN TELEVISIONS...BUT COME NEXT YEAR...YOU WON'T FIND TECH-GIANT MICROSOFT ON THE SHOW FLOOR.
(------Brian Tong, Senior Editor, CNET----)
"it's kind of starting a trend where a lot of these major companies want to control their own companies with their own announcements in their own way // It's hard to distinguish yourself from the pack so we're starting to see people do more intimate announcements where they can control the message."
BUT FOR THOSE WHO PLAN TO RETURN, IT'S A CHANCE TO BUILD BUZZ.
(---SOT: Christopher Yang, Product Manage Vivitech---10:13:38---) "AND ALSO HELP generate new ideas for everyone in the industry."
AND FOR ALL THOSE PROTOTYPES THAT DON'T GET THE CONSUMER SUPPORT TO GET OFF THE SHOW ROOM FLOOR, THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR.
A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW SAYS MICROSOFT'S PULLOUT WON'T EFFECT THE SHOW'S IMPACT ON THE INDUSTRY AND HE ISN'T CONVINCED MICROSOFT WON'T BE BACK.
HE SAYS COMPANIES HAVE COME AND GONE...AND HE ADDS WHAT *WAS* GOING TO BE MICROSOFT'S SPACE AT NEXT YEAR'S SHOW HAS PROBABLY BEEN RENTED OUT TO OTHER COMPANIES ALREADY.

DAY TWO FOR THE MEDIA PREVIEW OF THE DETROIT AUTO SHOW... AND THE CHEVY VOLT IS GETTING SOME FOLKS CHARGED UP.
ALEX SHABAD WITH OUR SISTER STATION W-Z-Z-M IN GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN TAKES A LOOK AT THE CAR... AND THE FORCE THAT POWERS IT.
<<IT'S A SIMPLE CHARGE UP - HERE AT THE DETROIT AUTO SHOW - BUT A VERY COMPLEX BATTERY- MAKING PROCESS IN HOLLAND .
"Every volt we sell in the us market has a battery and every battery will have an LG Chem"
GENERAL MOTORS CHOSE - "LG CHEM" TO MAKE THE RECHARGABLE "LITHIUM ION" BATTERY FOR THE VOLT IN 2009
BECAUSE The volt uses both gas and electric it needs to be a "do everything" kind of battery. While there's no perfect formula experts say lg chem does it as well as any company and on a larger scale"
VOLT SPOKESMAN ROB PETERSON COMPARES THE BATTERY TO AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE.
"A marathon runner you need to go long distances sprinter needs to have power immediately so this battery needs both."
BUT RIGHT NOW - ELECTRIC POWERED AUTOMOBILES ARE LIMITED.
"it takes about eight to ten hours to fully charge it up"
AND EACH CHARGE LASTS ABOUT FORTY MILES.
"For most people they'd obviously like it if it could go 100 or 200 miles on a charge"
IN 2011 - SALES WERE DISAPPOINTING.
GM HOPED TO SELL 10 THOUSAND VOLTS BUT ENDED UP SELLING 7500.
Electric vehicles are a nitch at this point in time but we expect soon they will begin to grow.
RECENTLY - ATTENTION HAS BEEN FOCUSED ON A SERIES OF CAR FIRES DURING CRASH TESTS - CAUSED BY A COOLANT - NEAR THE BATTERY.
EVEN SOME INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISTS WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
"They suffered quite a bit with safety issues and I wanted to know how its doing in the market"
GM NOW SAYS IT HAS A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM - AND THAT THE VOLT'S BEST DAYS ARE AHEAD.>>
