Now "trouble with the Curve" is not the only movie with scenes shot in Macon this year.
It's also not the only baseball themed film with Central Georgia ties.
In June...film crews spent about two weeks at sites across town...shooting "42".
That filming brought actors Harrison Ford...and Chris Meloni...to Macon...for the movie depicting the life of Jackie Robinson...at a time when baseball was racially charged and harshly divided.
Here's a clip of the movie trailer, just released this week.
"42" in theaters in April.
In other news tonight...more than two million dollars are headed to Macon...with the goal of creating new jobs in the College Hill and Mercer Village areas.
The College Hill Alliance announced that the Knight Foundationis sending in a second round of funds.
The first 2 million dollar grant came down in 2009... and went toward beautifying the Mercer Village neighborhood, attracting business, and encouraging people to move there.
This time, the College Hill Alliance will take the 2 point 3 million dollar grant and work with Jumpstart America... a non profit based in Ohio.
The goal is to create what they call an *innovation corridor* to attract talent and keep Macon's college graduates in town.
{***SOT FULL***}
<william Underwood, Mercer University President: This grants focus is on promoting economic prosperity in the College Hill Corridor so we're very excited about it all together the knight foundation has put more than 12 million dollars in the last two or three years so it's an exciting day for us.>
The alliance says JumpStart will do research on knowledge-based industries that could be viable additions to Macon's job market.
Then they'll help the alliance come up with a plan to get new businesses off the ground and help existings ones grow.
And more funding totaling a hundred-fifty thousand dollars is pouring in....
This grant will be split among three Central Georgia law enforcement agencies, as they work together to combat gang violence and keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office.. Macon Police Department and Twiggs County Sheriff's office just got word this week from the U.S. Justice Department.
They'll unite for Project Safe Neighborhoods... with funds going to several programs.
They include a community-wide gang assessment.. Creating a gang database... Implementing a gang intervention program for 40 juvenile offenders.. And cognitive behavioral treatment for 15 adult offenders.
Bibb Chief Deputy David Davis says they'll be able to assess the gang activity and then work to fight it.
< The main thing is that we get these assessments done get the database built so that we can get a clear picture of the gang issue here in bibb county and we may find that it may not be exactly like what we may think it is. >
Three years ago... we told you how Macon police lost their last gang database... when a computer hard drive crashed.
Davis says the money will help pay for new software to let all three agencies safely access the same one.
It's been exactly a year since the execution of Troy Davis.
He's the man convicted of the 1989 murder of an off-duty Savannah police officer.
His supporters say... prosecutors had the wrong man... and Davis said in his last words that he was innocent of the crime.
Tonight, just as they did a year ago... those who believed in his innocence gathered for church vigils in Savannah...
Workshops on Saturday and Sunday in Pooler are set to address what organizers see as problems in the criminal justice system.
Police say a career criminal from Dublin led them on a car chase that reached speeds of 120 miles per hour... and then admitted he was on the way to commit burglaries.
Wanted in four states, 34 year old Donald Carter faces a slew of charges, from obstruction... to a parole violation... to driving on a suspended license.
When police in Tunnell Hill, Georgia finally caught up to him... they say the gear he had in the car...clued them off he might be up to something illegal.
The arresting officer says he asked Carter if he planned to commit a burglary...carter replied, "yes. It's what I do."
Carter will now be doing some time in jail awaiting his court appearance. He's currently being held without bond along with his passenger.
