She later died at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Judy Le talked to Conover's girlfriend and another neighborhood witness who says it's not what it seems.
When Rosyln Williams ran into the middle of the street, she found herself in the middle of a fight between John Conover and the Carter family.
Rosyln Williams, witness: "Bats were coming up everywhere and I said, hold up it takes all the family for one person?"
Conover's girlfriend...Alicia Wilson...says Carter's children started the deadly brawl on the corner of Mercer St and Atlantic Ave.
Alicia Wilson: "As he walked off, that's when the kids attacked him with bats and sticks."
Williams says Alterese Carter, the children's mother, was also armed with a bat.
Williams: "She was swinging, everyone was swinging at him. She hit him one time and when she hit him, he picked up the bat and swung back."
Wilson: "As he hit her in the arm, that's when she pretended he hit her and she fell back."
Williams: "The little boy ran up and said momma momma, she ain't breathing."
Police say Conover struck Carter in the head with a baseball bat and also hit Carter's husband when he tried to intervene. We called and knocked on the Carter family's home but the Carters were not available to comment.
Williams: "He was defending himself because if bats coming at me, I know how I'd feel."
Wilson: "If John hit her in the back of the head, why would he call the cops or ambulance himself."
Carter later died at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Wilson says she hopes for a different outcome for Conover.
"If he loses his life, I don't know what i'm going to do, I really don't know."

A girl from the Atlanta-area was bitten while feeding a dolphin at SeaWorld Orlando.
The girl's father caught the incident on camera.
The family talked with Sophia Choi... and we want to warn you, you may find this video a little unsettling.
A THRILLING TIME FEEDING BOTTLE NOSED DOLPHINS AT SEAWORLD IN ORLANDO.. TURNED FRIGHTENING WITH THIS MOMENT WHEN ONE OF THE MAMMALS BIT 8 YEAR OLD JILLIAN THOMAS ON NOVEMBER 21ST.
(nats)
IN THIS VIDEO SHOT BY HER FATHER.. YOU CAN SEE THE THREE DIME SIZED PUNCTURE WOUNDS ON JILLIAN'S HAND.
I was thinking it was going to haul me into the water. And this is a little crazy but I thought it was kinda going to eat my hand off.
THE DOLPHIN BIT- AFTER JILLIAN MOVED A PAPER PLATE THAT HELD THE FISH SHE WAS FEEDING THEM.
When I was done I accidentally held it up, the dolphin jumped up and ate the carton and bit my hand.
They told us to make sure the paper plate stays on the wall, but we really didn't know why. And there was no disclaimer.. there were no signs on the wall that says hey the dolphin could bite your hand or there is a level of risk in this attraction.
JILLIAN'S HAND IS NOW PRETTY MUCH HEALED.. BUT THE SCARY EVENT WILL LAST HER LIFETIME.. AND MAYBE LONGER ON YOUTUBE. HER FATHER POSTED THIS VIDEO TO WARN OTHER PARENTS.
We really felt powerless. So we thought we got this video let's make it public and let's try to put some pressure on SeaWorld to make some changes.
JILLIAN'S PARENTS SAY SEAWORLD RESPONDED CLUMSILY.. NOT EVEN SENDING OVER A MANAGER.
They did not tell us to look out for any signs of infection.. they rinsed it out with Bactine.. we had to ask for Bandaids.
SEAWORLD SAYS IT IS TAKING THIS INCIDENT SERIOUSLY AND RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING QUOTE NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT TO US THAN THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR GUESTS, EMPLOYEES AND ANIMALS.
SeaWorld also said that educators and animal care staff are always on-site at this area, monitoring all interactions.
It adds that the park's health services employees quickly responded and treated the girl.
The family said it does not plan to take any legal action, but wants SeaWorld to raise the age limit or warn parents that dolphins can and do bite.

There's less than a month to go until the U-S could face massive spending cuts and tax increases, also known as the "fiscal cliff".
So far, lawmakers and President Obama haven't reached a deal... and they seem to be very far apart.
Emily Schmidt has more on where things stand.
IT'S BEEN SIXTEEN DAYS SINCE PRESIDENT OBAMA AND CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS MET TO TALK ABOUT HOW TO AVOID THE FISCAL CLIFF--THE AUTOMATIC SPENDING CUTS AND TAX INCREASES THAT BEGIN TO KICK IN IF THERE'S NO AGREEMENT BY JANUARY FIRST. SIXTEEN DAYS TO GET HERE:
"I think we're far apart still, but I think we're moving closer together."
"I would say we're nowhere. Period. We're nowhere."
THURSDAY, TREASURY SECRETARY TIM GEITHNER PROPOSED PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PLAN THAT INCLUDED 1-POINT-SIX TRILLION DOLLARS IN TAX REVENUE, COMING LARGELY FROM AN EXPIRATION OF BUSH-ERA TAX CUTS FOR FAMILIES WHO MAKE MORE THAN $250 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR. GEITHNER SAYS THAT'S A MUST.
"There's not going to be an agreement without rates going up."
THE ADMINISTRATIONS' PLAN ALSO INCLUDED 50 BILLION DOLLARS IN NEW STIMULUS SPENDING. BOEHNER SAYS THE ENTIRE PROPOSAL REPRESENTED THREE WEEKS OF WASTED TIME.
"I was flabbergasted. I looked at him and I said, 'You can't be serious."
THE HOUSE SPEAKER SAYS REPUBLICANS HAVE PUT INCREASED REVENUES INCLUDING EFFORTS TO CLOSE TAX LOOPHOLES AND REFORM THE TAX CODE ON THE TABLE, INSTEAD OF RAISING TAX RATES FOR ANYONE.
"The fact is, if there's another way to get revenue from upper income Americans that doesn't hurt our economy, then why wouldn't we consider it?"
THOSE ARE PUBLICLY UNCHANGED POSITIONS ... WITH A DEADLINE THAT'S SET, TOO. WHETHER POLITICAL THEATER, OR POLITICAL REALITY, THERE'S MORE MENTION GOING OVER THE FISCAL CLIFF COULD GO BEYOND HYPOTHETICAL.
"There's clearly a chance."
"I think we're going over the cliff. It's pretty clear to me they've made a political calculation.. "
"If they are going to force higher rates on virtually all Americans because they're unwilling to let tax rates go up on 2 percent of Americans, then, that's the choice they're going to have to make.
The non-partisan Tax Policy Center estimates middle-class families would pay about two-thousand-dollars a year more in taxes, if no deal is reached to keep taxes the same rate.
