It's National Day of Unplugging

HOUSTON – Are you addicted to technology? Could you go without it for 24 hours?

Well, Friday is the day to try, it's National Day of Unplugging!

It’s an all too familiar scene, cell phones tightly gripped, eyes glued on the screen, other times to our ears.

It’s hard to imagine life without our electronic device, but there’s a new pledge challenging folks to disconnect from their gadgets, and connect with real people instead.

It’s called, National Day of Unplugging, and the project comes from the “Sabbath Manifesto” – which is a modern spin on the tradition of a weekly day of rest.

The challenge starts March 9 and ends on the 10, from sundown to sundown, and for 24 hours, all you must do is cut the cord, and unplug.

So, are you up for a tech detox, and could you, do it? Well, we decided to ask some college students, and here’s what they had to say.

“I can’t do that, I need my phone everywhere I go, my phone is my device,” said Johnny Pham, who said he wouldn’t take part.

“There were times when we didn’t have phones, so I feel like I can do it,” said Tasnim Kotadia, who told us she would take part.

“Like unless I threw my phone across the room, then I can probably attempt it,” said Bianca Macahlig, who felt split about the challenge.

“It’s been my New Year’s resolution, I’ve just really been hoping to unplug and hang out,” said Jaime Guillem, who says he’s unplugged at least once before.

Whether you decide to take the challenge, or not, here are a few reasons why some researchers say it might be worth it.

Unplugging, could better your health by lowering your stress levels, so you can decompress, and recharge the natural way.

It could also better your relationships, by linking you together, without all the screen fuss.
