The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Friday afternoon that some of the closed eastbound traffic on Interstate 16 is returning to normal.

GDOT is removing the contraflow operations from Dublin to US 301/Exit 116 in Statesboro allowing traffic to flow eastbound, according to a news release. All eastbound lanes from Exit 116 to Savannah will be restricted to use by federal and state authorities responding to Hurricane Matthew.

The eastbound traffic from Statesboro to Savannah will remain closed until further notice.
