1 dead, 1 hospitalized after accident on Hwy 49 in Peach Co.

The name of the deceased has not been released yet

(UPDATE 6:20 p.m.) According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Michael Strickland, the two vehicles involved were a black 2012 Kia Optima and green 1997 Explorer.

Strickland says the Optima was going north on Highway 49 and the Explorer was going south.

The Explorer crossed over the line and hit the Optima head-on.

The driver of the Optima died at the scene.

The driver of the Explorer was the one taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

GSP is investigating and charges are pending.

One person is dead after a head-on collision on Highway 49 in Peach County.

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks says the accident happened about one mile north of Bluebird in Fort Valley.

Rooks says two vehicles collided head-on and one person died at the scene.

Another person was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

All lanes are blocked and not expected to be cleared until 7:30 p.m.

The name of the deceased has not been released and is pending notification of next of kin.
