First responders, teachers, kids, and Good Samaritans from across Central Georgia gathered at the Museum of Aviation Wednesday morning to be honored as Hometown Heroes.

The American Red Cross of Central Midwest Georgia honors people who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the community.

Two kids were announced as Hometown Heroes.

One of them was Ben Trofemuk, a student at Bibb County's Academy of Classical Education. He raised money to buy uniforms for 40 third graders at L.H. Williams Elementary School.

"I was very happy because I knew that kids would finally have uniforms so they could focus in school," said Ben.

Another hometown hero was Macon-Bibb firefighter Ken Davis. Last September, Davis was injured as he saved a woman from the third floor of a burning apartment.

"We go to work everyday, sometimes when we leave we don't know if we'll be back the next day," said Davis. "It's a tough job, it's dangerous. It's nice to know we are appreciated for what we do."

The Red Cross honored 15 people and groups Wednesday.
