The Warner Robins Housing Authority along with community partners is hosting their annual back to school bash on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until noon inside C.B. Watson Primary School.

The are giving away about 2.500 free backpacks filled with school supplies, while supplies last. The giveaways also include free haircuts, food, balloon bounce inflatable and information booths.

For some school is just a few weeks away, and some parents and students took advantage of a Back to School Bash in Warner Robins Friday.

The line for the Warner Robins Housing Authority Back to School Bash wrapped around the building well-before nine Friday morning. But some did not mind the wait.

"Glad we got here early,” says parent Beatrice Cooley.

"It's a long line but it's worth it. I can stand in line to wait for a free haircut and book bag,” says student Kevarrius Seor.

It is the 8th year for the event with 35 organizations helping to give out 2,500 book bags stuffed with school supplies.

"It has grown tremendously. The first year it was about a thousand and we've moved up from there. One year we had 5,000 book bags. So we get it down to about 2500 every year now,” says Chairman of the Warner Robins Housing Authority Douglas Womack.

They also helped out parent’s pocket books by doing free health screenings and haircuts which can add up.

"Even for children I think they're $11 to $12 bucks a piece,” says Cooley.

It is an event some parents say gives them a financial break and a chance for students to get back into the swing of things.

"It's a good way for them to get together and get up with their friends from classes and stuff and have some fun,” says Cooley.

Starting next Wednesday WMAZ will kick-off our annual Operation Back to School drive. It starts on the July 26th and runs through August 6th.

We are partnering with Communities in Schools and Wal-mart to put school supplies in the hands of students who need them most. Look for the bins in the front of Wal-Mart stores across Central Georgia starting next week.

The free haircuts will last until 2:00 p.m.

The event is for Houston County Youth.

The school is located at 61 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Warner Robins.
