A Jones County man who went to a Macon motel to meet a woman ended up getting kidnapped and driven around to ATM machines to take out money.
Bibb County deputies say Cody Berkner, 21, went to Roadway Inn on Romeiser Drive just after 9 p.m. Monday to meet 20-year-old India Summers of Macon.
When Berkner got there, he was held at gunpoint and forced into the back of his car by another man, 29-year-old Raul Sanchez, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Police say Sanchez and Summers took Berkner to multiple locations and forced him to take money out of his bank account.
Bibb County deputies spotted Berkner's 2001 Toyota Celica traveling west on Hartley Bridge Road and tried to pull it over for "defective equipment," the news release states.
Sanchez refused to pull over and the deputies chased the car. The chase ended when Sanchez got out of the vehicle and ran on Romeiser Drive.
The deputies chased and caught him.
Because of the terrain, both of the deputies received injuries to their legs - one suffered a severe sprain, the other a fracture, according to the sheriff's office. Both deputies were treated at Medical Center, Navicent Health.
Sanchez had two outstanding warrants for armed robbery and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, the news release states. He's charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. Summers is charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.
They are both being held in the Bibb County jail.
