Friday, Bibb County Deputy John Whitmire was honored for his retirement after over 40 years of service.
Whitmire says he's been on the force for 41 years from working traffic to working inside the courthouse for almost a decade, he's done it all.
He says he's enjoyed getting the opportunity to become closer with the community and will miss the bonds with his brothers in blue.
Whitmire received an award for his years of dedication, a time he says flew by.
"It came a lot quicker than I thought it would. Time has passed faster than I expected it to, and it's really hard to believe that it's time to leave," said Whitmire.
After retiring, Whitmire says he plans on working a part-time security job to keep in shape.
