A boil water advisory is in place until further notice for some areas of East Macon, due to a water main break.
Tony Rojas with the Macon Water Authority says it happened Thursday around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Ocmulgee East Boulevard and Emery Highway.
The following areas should boil water for three minutes until the boil water has been lifted:
- South of Highway 129 and Joy Cliff Road
- North of Highway 80 and Jeffersonville Road
- South of Riggins Mill Road and north of I-16/Highway 404
According to Rachel Gambill, Communication Specialist with Macon-Bibb County Public Affairs, a better explanation of the affected area is Emery Highway/Commerce Drive out Emery Highway to Jeffersonville Road to Irwinton Road to Twiggs County line and down Jeffersonville Road to Twiggs County Line (Dry Branch).
Also, from Emery Highway south on Ocmulgee East Blvd. to the county line. Riggins Mill Road and Ocmulgee East Blvd to county line on Riggins Mill Road. The boil water advisory includes all side streets within this area.
She says there are also some water outages.
The affected area is Emory Highway & Commerce to Emory Highway and Ocmulgee East Blvd., up Riggins Mill Road to Ruark Road; South Ocmulgee East Blvd. to Herbert Smart Airport Drive.
Customers in the outage map area may be without service for a day or two, but updated information will be provided throughout the day today as soon as more information is available from the Macon Water Authority.
Rojas says crews are working overtime to restore water to customers in the affected areas.
