Halloween is a few weeks away, and costume stores have several outfits on display, but local store managers say there's one outfit that costumers are staying clear of: clown costumes.

Managers with Spirit Halloween in Macon said, despite the holiday season, they haven't sold a lot of clown costumes. In fact, many of their clown masks, face paint, and outfits are still on the shelves.

Manager Jerry Bradley with Discount Costumes of Georgia in Warner Robins said clown sales are low in his store as well. Bradley said he thinks the recent clown sightings around the nation is making people avoid the outfits altogether. Spirit Halloween even released a statement about clown sightings.

“Spirit Halloween does not encourage or associate with any recent clown sightings and does not comment on ongoing police investigations,” said Assistant Manager Emily Smith.

Bradley said his store hasn’t sold a single clown mask. Instead, managers said people are buying other outfits for the big night. “We have a wide variety of costumes here,” said Smith. “Our most popular is the Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad.”

Just a reminder, there have been no confirmed clown sighting our viewing area.
