Perry FFA members are figuring out how to move forward after the loss of a farm barn to a structure fire early Saturday morning.

According to Perry Fire Chief Lee Parker, a call came in for a fire at the FFA’s pig barn on Keith Road near the Perry Hospital around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Parker said the building was a total loss after the fire and that several show pigs that were inside died.

After news of the fire hit social media, a meeting was held at 8 a.m. in the Perry High cafeteria for parents and FFA members to discuss the loss.

Houston County Schools Director of Community Affairs Beth McLaughlin says there were around 55 pigs inside the barn that died.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
