A semi-truck driver was seriously injured in an accident on I-75 south near the Sardis Church Road exit.

According to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, around 10:30 Saturday night, Singh Rajinderp of New Jersey was driving a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck when he ran into the back of a 2007 Freightliner semi-truck. That collision knocked the 2018 semi into a 2017 Chevrolet 5500 truck, which was being driven by Steven Winieki.

Winieki was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

This was the second accident near the Sardis Church Road exit on Saturday. Earlier in the day, a distracted driver caused a five-car accident that sent three people to the hospital. Deputies said the distracted driver was driving a Ford Expedition when she looked down at something in her car and then hit the car in front of her, causing the chain reaction.

The driver of the Ford Expedition was ticketed for distracted driving.

Last night's accident is still under investigation. If you have any information, you can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at (478) 751-7500.
