A Bibb County deputy came under gunfire Wednesday night as he was rendering first aid to a man who was shot Wednesday night during an armed robbery.

A sheriff's office incident report gives more detail about what happened during the robbery at Hot Wings Plus, 3479 Pio Nono Ave.

Bibb County Investigator O. Sanders was driving in the area with his window cracked when he heard someone screaming for help, the incident report states. Sanders pulled over when he saw two women on the side of the road standing near park vehicles.

The investigator saw a man - who had been shot - lying face down in the parking lot of the restaurant, the report states.

Sanders approached the unresponsive man and started applying pressure to his wounds to stop the bleeding. A gunman then started shooting at him, the report states.

Sanders then called for more units and an ambulance.

Sanders was not injured.

The man he attempted to help, Jian Fang Wang, 38, was taken to Medical Center Navicent Health where he died of his wounds.

Wang, an employee of the restaurant, was leaving the store after closing at about 10:15 p.m. with two other employees. As they approached their vehicles, a man with a gun emerged from behind the business, fired shots into Wang's car, and took a bag believed to contain money, according to a sheriff's office news release.

A witness who lives near the restaurant told investigators he saw a dark colored Toyota Camry parked in the corner of his yard when he got home from church.

He told investigators that he saw a male exit the vehicle as he was going into his home, the incident report states. As he was taking off his shoes he heard five gunshot and women screaming "call 911," the report states.
