We were "just curious" about an area near Gray called Old Clinton.
It's a historic site that is the original county seat of Jones County, before it was moved to Gray.
The history of its streets is still very apparent and the Old Clinton Historical Society preserves and protects the Old Clinton Historic District.
According to the society's website, the area was a significant center of trade and culture from Georgia's Antebellum period.
Aside from its architecture and sites available for tourism, there are several people who live in the historic area.
Geraldine Williams recalls several moments from Old Clinton's past.
"I love old Clinton; I've been here all my life," Williams said.
Each year, the society hosts its annual Old Clinton War Days during the first weekend of May, which is an event where people can come and enjoy re-enactments of the Battles of Sunshine Church and Griswoldville from 1864.
One part of Old Clinton's rich history is its oldest house -- the Macarthy-Pope House -- which Williams says was once a post office.
"That was back in the days when Clinton was a big town. They had stores and bars and people from all over the world came here," she said.
Clinton is a part of Georgia’s Antebellum Trail, which features the history of the Old South, according to the Antebellum Trail website.
