The Ocmulgee Heritage Trail is one step closer to being completely connected between Amerson River Park and Riverside Cemetery.

Members of the 2016 Leadership Macon Class continued working on their project coined "Bridging the Trail" Saturday morning.

The team spent day clearing a scenic overlook that was recently sponsored along the trail. It will allow hikers to have an unobstructed view of the flowing Ocmulgee.

Thomas Reichert hopes that when they finish all the work that people will finally get to enjoy the river more.

"It's been unutilized for a long time, so it’s nice to see NewTown Macon and all the people pitching in trying to make this river walk something special," said Reichert.

Leadership Macon hopes to have this part of the trail fully open to the public by the end of November.
