A family of six escaped from a fire at their Macon home Monday night.

According to Macon-Bibb Fire Battalion Chief Ronnie Napier, it happened around 8 p.m. at the house on 2749 Village Green.

Napier says the fire was started when one of the residents left food unattended cooking on the stove.

The six people in the home got out unhurt, and firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly.

The fire is still under investigation.
