A community garden in Macon is closer to becoming a reality.
Danny Glover with One South CDC announced they received a $500,000 grant Tuesday from a nonprofit called Art Place America.
The garden is part of what Glover calls the Agrihood.
They also plan a farm-to-table restaurant.
Glover says the idea goes back to his childhood days when neighbors helped neighbors.
"I always tell the story of my grandmother -- whenever she cooked collard greens on Sunday, if her peppers weren't hot enough, she would send me or a cousin to Miss Jones to get peppers. I'll go down, get peppers from Miss Jones, and in exchange, Miss Jones would probably ask for tomatoes or onions," said Glover.
Glover says they hope to start planting in the middle of next year.
