A sweet memory from one man's childhood, could soon make him a millionaire.

Macon native, Greg Pope, submitted his flavor idea for Lay's newest potato chip and the company selected it as a finalist.

Pope says the fried green tomato flavor is inspired by his father's home cooking, and the southern staple has a special meaning in their family.

"My granddad would take us in his backyard and show us his garden and show us some of his tomatoes that he was growing in his garden. He would pick off some of those tomatoes and give them to my dad, his son, and my dad would take them and make fried green tomatoes," says Pope.

That's where Pope says he got the inspiration for his submission into Lay's "Do Us A Flavor" contest.

Pope says when he came across the contest online, the fried green tomato flavor was the first thing that popped into his mind, and when Lay's picked it as a finalist, his dad says he was overwhelmed.

"I had no idea that it had had such an impact in his childhood that he would remember," says Pope's father.

But Pope says the recipe is just too good to forget.

"Cornmeal, flour, black pepper, and salt... I don't do any measuring, I just throw love in... that's the secret ingredient," says Pope's dad.

And Pope says love is what it's really all about.

If he wins the contest in October he will receive $1 million, and plans to start a college fund for his 3-year-old daughter.

"It's about family, it's about time with family and enjoying food," says Pope.

But even if he doesn't win, he says he's thankful that the southern fried flavor will always remind him of family.
