Sticker Search: Macon promotes small business Saturday with prize

While some folks were shopping for deals, some were looking for a different items - stickers hidden in some of the downtown Macon stores.

MACON, Ga. — It was very busy in downtown Macon today, as shoppers were out and about for small business Saturday.

But while folks were shopping for deals, some were looking for a different items - stickers hidden in some of the stores.

Newtown Macon partnered with more than 20 downtown businesses to offer shoppers a chance to win a $500 shopping spree in downtown.

As part of small business Saturday, businesses hid limited-edition stickers designed by Macon artist 'Mama Hawk Draws.'

Once a shopper found a sticker they could turn it in to be entered into the drawing.

"It's been so much fun! No one has found my sticker yet, which makes it even more fun! I've had people waiting at the door this morning when I got here to look for the sticker. They've come back several times trying to find the sticker, it's been a lot of fun today," said Scott Mitchell, owner of the Bohemian Zen.

Newtown Macon says they decided to organize the "Shop Small Sticker Hunt" to keep money in central Georgia.

According to a study by civic economics, for every $100 spent with a locally-owned business, $68 stays in the community.

Compare that to a national chain, where only $43 stay local.
