A man was shot and killed by home invaders in Unadilla Monday morning.

Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy says it happened around 3:15 a.m. at a home at 390 Peavy Ave, which is off Cherry St.

Peavy says they believe robbery was the motive as three people entered the home and shot Travis Daniels, age 29.

He said the three robbers are still at large, and investigators are still at the scene collecting evidence.

He could not release any further information on the shooting. But some of the neighbors say they were woken up by the shots.

"Then my uncle called and asked me what was going on and by that time I looked out the window and man there was ambulances and police cars just out,” recalls neighbor Jeffrey Minor.

Minor says he heard the gunshots when it happened that night.

"I woke up and I woke up to the sound of gunfire which is really unusual you know in our neighborhood you know because we have a peaceful neighborhood. Everybody normally stays to themselves and everybody just basically minds their own business,” says Minor.

Coroner Marvin Bowen says Daniels was shot in the left shoulder and died at the Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon.

But while the family was standing at the scene this afternoon they say a man went behind the house across the street and started changing his clothes. Dooly County deputies chased the man down bringing him back to the home. The Sheriff's Office says at this time they do not have a lead on who robbed and killed Travis Daniels.

The GBI is also involved in the investigation.
