We now know the names of two people who died in a house fire on Woodridge Drive in Macon. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says 56-year-old Troy Thomason died at the scene and 57-year-old Cheryl McGlynn died at Coliseum Northside Hospital's emergency room. Chief Marvin Riggins says investigators did not find any smoke detectors inside the house. Claire Davis spoke with neighbor Tom Hewitt who says the tragedy hits close to home.

Tom Hewitt has lived off Woodridge Drive for 19 years. “About 3:00 this morning, I heard sirens, and of course, as they arrived, they turned it off, and I thought, 'Wow, that was close.' And then I heard another one -- I guess that was the second truck coming -- and I thought, 'Wow, that was really close,'” said Hewitt.

He says he went back to sleep and then later on found out his neighbor, 57-year-old Cheryl McGlynn died when her home caught fire. Bibb Coroner Leon Jones says McGlynn died at Coliseum Northside Hospital's emergency room. Her friend, 56-year-old Troy Thomason, died at the scene. “I mean, it’s sad two people lost their lives, it’s horrible,” said Hewitt.

Fire investigator Steve Wesson says they also found a poodle dead inside. “I've caught her dog for her a couple of times. She's a very nice lady. Don't know her name, but she was always very nice to me as I walked by,” said Hewitt.

Rosalyn Thaggard lives next door to McGlynn. She didn't want to go on camera, but she called McGlynn a childhood friend and says she's known her for more than 40 years and lived next door to her since 2008. She also told me she loved her family, her dog, and being outdoors.

Fire Chief Marvin Riggins says investigators could not find any smoke detectors in the home, something Hewitt says is making him think twice. “It's a little scary, and as a matter of fact, I'm going to buy batteries for my smoke detectors right now. My daughter lives just right up the street and I'm not sure about hers, but we’re gonna check it out today and make sure her batteries are good in her smoke detectors also.,” said Hewitt.

Macon-Bibb Battalion Chief Todd Alligood says they found McGlynn and Thomason in the bedroom. He says they're still working to figure out how the fire started.
