Monroe County's district attorney is headed to the Mideast for a year with the Georgia Army National Guard.

According to his news release, Jonathan Adams said he's learned that the National Guard will deploy his unit next spring.

Adams is a lieutenant colonel and deputy commander for a unit based in Marietta, the 201st Regional Support Group and Homeland Response Force.

Adams did not disclose where country his unit will be deployed.

While he's gone, Chief Assistant District Attorney Mark Daniel will serve as interim district attorney, according to the news release.

According to Adams, this is his fourth deployment during 25 years in the military.

They included a time as a magistrate for an internship facility in Iraq in 2004, classifying and sentencing thousands of civilian detainees and enemy prisoners of war.

In 2016, Adams was elected district attorney for the Towaliga Judicial Circuit, which includes Butts, Lamar and Monroe Counties. He and his wife have three daughters.
