Napier Avenue Church holds Thanksgiving giveaway

Pastor Hilliard Arline says they had enough to feed as many as 500 families.

MACON, Ga. — With 2 days until Thanksgiving, churches in Macon are continuing to meet the needs of their community.

Folks started lining up an hour early at Abundant Word of Grace Church on Napier Avenue to get a Thanksgiving meal.

Pastor Hilliard Calvin Arline IV says Tuesday's event was their first Thanksgiving community giveaway.

"We're just trying to do the work that we know we've been ordained and commissioned to do," says Arline.

They handed out boxes with chicken, collard greens, cornbread and other goodies.

Arline says they had enough to feed as many as 500 families, and they were happy to lend a helping hand in this time of inflation.

"This year the Lord opened a door for us to be a blessing on a greater scale, so we are so grateful for the opportunity, and humbled to be able to serve," says Arline.

Lee Bracewell was in line. He says his sister sent him the post, and he wanted to check it out. He says he came hoping to meet people, and he left having done that.

"I had fun doing this, it was a nice morale boost for me to come across this," Bracewell says.

Plus he got a holiday meal that he's excited about. Bracewell says he plans to use the food to bond with family. He says his sister will cook up the collared greens and he plans to smoke the chicken.

Arline thanks Tyson Food, and the other sponsors, and volunteers for making the event possible.
