Felicia's Cake Factory opened on Third Street in downtown Macon last Friday.

A grand opening was held that day, which was also the owner's birthday, according to owner Felicia Howard.

Howard is originally from Roberta, Georgia, but she has lived in Macon for the past 12 years.

As far as baking, she says it started as a hobby.

Then, she began baking cakes for family and friends. She mentioned that she took a few decorating classes when she first started out, but overall, she is a self-taught baker.

In 2014, she legalized her business, but she was still working from her home.

"We started out initially as a home-based business back in 2014 is when we received our LLC license from the state," Howard said. "It kind of took off from there."

As of last Friday, she plans to work out of the building in downtown Macon with the ultimate goal of making peoples' "sweet" dreams come true with products that look good and taste even better.

The bakery specializes in custom cake designs, dessert cakes, cupcakes and other sweet treats.

"Any type of event that you have and you need some desserts, just give us a call," Howard said.

Aside from special orders, the storefront is currently open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

During normal storefront hours, the bakery sells cake push-pops, cake slices, cake in a jar, cupcakes and cookies.
