Nurses save woman's life at Macon restaurant

Three nurses rushed to help, and one is now still her nurse at the hospital.

One Central Georgia woman says she's thankful to be alive after her heart stopped at a Macon restaurant.

Kelly Davis and her husband went to eat at Metro Diner. After finishing her meal, Davis blacked out and her heart stopped.

Three nurses also dining at the restaurant quickly came to her aid, giving CPR until emergency crews arrived.

EMS took Davis to Coliseum Medical Center, where doctors diagnosed her with Sudden Death Syndrome. Davis is now recovering, and one of the original nurses who helped her out is caring for her still.

“The morning shift nurse just happens to be the nurse that came to me first, and to me, she saved my life,” Davis said. “We had a nice, tearful reunion and I owe her my life.”

The nurse, Rachel Applegate, says once they loaded Davis up, she didn't know if she would ever see her again.

“The odds of seeing of someone do so well after going through that, and being able to help is just amazing,” Applegate said.

Davis hopes to track down the other two nurses so she can thank them as well.
