We usually associate red and green with Christmas decorations, but a group of Perry Middle students wanted to make sure theirs were all blue.

The FCCLA members -- or Family, Career and Community Leaders of America -- decided they would design a tree that honored fallen officers as a community service project.

That tree was on display at the Perry Welcome Center and won the People’s Choice award.

Each ornament has a badge number of a fallen officer.

The tree was auctioned off, the police department bought it, and the $200 it raised went to a charity for the families of officers who have lost their lives.

Just this past Friday, students Emmy Merritt, Chyna Lester, Gracie Svoboda and their teacher Alisha Hall got to go to the Perry Police Department and meet some of the officers there.
