Robins Regional Chamber reminds shoppers to think local on Black Friday

If you're getting ready to go Black Friday shopping the Robins Regional Chamber is reminding you to think local.

At Satterfield and Dempsey Jewelers on South Houston Lake Road, they are no strangers to Black Friday deals.

They've been in Warner Robins since the 1980s and know that shopping locally can be a benefit for customers.

“Being a local owned store, we do all of our work here in the store. So like the engagement rings, diamonds, we can go ahead and set them and size them in just a day or two, whereas like the chain stores have to send theirs off and, normally, a lot of times, takes two to three weeks,” said Sam Satterfield, one of the owners.

The store says a good Black Friday deal can help bring in new customers that become repeat visitors. This year, they are offering a Pandora bracelet with a purchase of $125. They are also offering 30-50% off diamond jewelry. They will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Black Friday.

At the Robins Regional Chamber, they agree that a good sale can drive in new business and they urge you to take advantage of the local stores.

“One of the really unique things about having- shopping in a locally owned business are you have an opportunity to get to know the staff, get to know the business owner. They're the ones that make the purchasing decisions. So, by doing so you end up creating more choice,” explained Chamber President and CEO, April Bragg.

Bragg says nearly 70 cents of every dollar spent locally, stays local. She said it can go to schools, infrastructure, and other areas that benefit the whole community. Bragg also says local businesses are more likely to give back to the community, either with donations to area non-profits or getting involved in other community activities.

At the Vine Boutique on S Houston Lake Road, they know that having a wide variety of items right at home, can save customers a long trip to somewhere like Atlanta.

“Hopefully, they don't have to go the big, big stores. They can come here and get that great customer service that we offer and the great deals we'll be offering,” said one of four owners, Maureen Northenor.

The group of four friends started the boutique this year and hope Black Friday brings in a whole bunch of new customers.

They are offering ‘doorbusters,’ certain merchandise at 15-20% off, and free gifts with purchases of $50 or $100. They will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

They’re not the only ones offering deals.

Gottwals Books is offering a free book priced $5 or less to anyone that visits their locations before noon on Friday.

Abreannes on S Houston Lake Road is also offering several Black Friday deals including discounts and giveaways.
