Just before 5 a.m. Friday morning, there was a smash and grab at the Dollar General on Houston Avenue in Macon.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says a deputy on patrol noticed the store's front windows and door were broken. The deputy found no one inside. The store's cigarette case was broken, and certain amount of cigarette merchandise was taken.

The store was closed at the time of the break-in. No employees or customers were present.

Deputies say if store security footage was recovered from the scene, information on a suspect may be released later.

Lieutenant Randy Gonzalez with the Bibb Sheriff's Office says the store's alarm system may have been tampered with.

There is no information yet on any suspects. Check back here for updates.
