Thousands of RVs pack into the Georgia National Fairgrounds

Nicole Butler met up with a family from Virginia who says their journey down to Perry was worth the trip.

Thousands of RVs from Canada to Texas to right here in Georgia are packed into the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

"We really enjoy this RV lifestyle," RV owner Robert Hill says.

The Hill family settled in for the 97th Family Reunion and Motor Home showcase as it kicks off at the Georgia National Fairgrounds this weekend.

With over 2,600 RVs on site, it can be a little overwhelming.

"It's wall to wall RVs" Hill says.

But that makes it the perfect spot to hunt down a new ride.

"Basically going because it was like an RV show on steroids, and we wanted to look at the new RVs and see what's out there. You're always looking to see what that next rig's going to look like. Now we've had ours for 14 years, so the next rig's got to be really nice because we like this one a lot," Hill says.

Coming all the way from Virginia, Hill says the people they've met along the way makes the trip well worth it!

"Matter of fact, that's what we call them -- family reunions -- and we get together and we see these people that we probably only see 3-4 times a year, but when we do, it's like we were, you know, like we've never been apart," he says.

Robert is just one of over 5,000 people who are traveling into the city for the event, which, in turn, brings more money to Perry.

"And we do bring an additional 1,500 to 2,000 people from the public in as well," Executive Director Chris Smith says.

Organizers say those numbers make it their largest show on record!

General Admission tickets are $10 and an all access pass to exhibits and seminars costs $55.
