Next year, voters heading to the polls in nearly a dozen Central Georgia counties will have a new SPLOST to vote on.

Wednesday, representatives from eleven counties voted to approve the transportation special-purpose local-option sales tax, or T-SPLOST.

If approved by voters, sales tax would increase 1 percent.

The Middle Georgia Regional Commission says that penny increase on every dollar will generate about $500,000,000 for transportation projects across 11 counties and $34 million for transportation in Bibb County over 10 years.

People can vote on the SPLOST next May.
