GSP released the following information on the accident:

On May 14, 2017, at approximately 7:55 p.m., a head-on collision occurred on GA State Route 49 just west of Pettigrew Road in Baldwin County. The vehicles involved were a GMC Yukon occupied by a family of six, and a Nissan Sentra occupied by two occupants. The crash occurred when the driver of the Yukon failed to maintain his lane and crossed over the centerline into the path of the Nissan Sentra. The two occupants of the Nissan Sentra were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Baldwin County Coroner. At this time it is believed that the driver of the Yukon was fatigued and dozed off causing him to leave his lane of travel. This crash is still under investigation by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT). Charges are pending.
