UPDATE: Two women taken to hospital after chain reaction accident at 75/16 split

A woman and her child were taken to the hospital after an accident Thursday at the 75/16 split.

UPDATE: A news release from the Bibb Sheriff's Office explains more about the chain reaction accident.

It says 28-year-old Katherine Collier was driving a white 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she ran into the back of the car in front of her.

The car in front of her was a 2000 Honda Accord driven by 23-year-old Jacquelin Mayen.

The impact of the Jeep hitting the Accord caused the Accord to hit a semi-truck driven by 39-year-old Sparkle Quick.

Collier and Mayen were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Collier had two passengers in her Grand Cherokee -- a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. They were injured.

An accident caused an SUV to crush a sedan at the I-16 and I-75 interchange Thursday afternoon.

According to the Bibb Sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Williams, a pregnant woman and her child were taken to the hospital.

Williams says the injuries were not serious and that it’s a matter of protocol to call an ambulance when a child is involved.

As of 3:50 p.m., crews were working to reopen the lanes.

The accident is still under investigation.
