If you've got some gifts for your kids waiting in layaway this year, there's a chance you might get some help paying for them.
For a fifth year in a row, the Layaway Santa group is raising money to pay down layaway accounts across Central Georgia. The group's goal is to raise $6,000 this year.
That money will be used specifically on children's Christmas gifts in layaway.
The group uses a combination of corporate sponsors and individual donations to raise the money.
Antonio Hammond, who was shopping for Christmas with his family, said he's not using layaway this year.
If he was, though, he said having the tab paid off would mean a lot.
"I would be in awe...I'd be like 'oh are you serious? Are you telling me the truth? Someone has paid off my layaway?'...I think it would be something great," said Hammond.
Chris Floore, one of the group's organizers, said Layaway Santa has visited the Kmart on Tom Hill and Roses on Pio Nono Avenue so far this year, but he said they could make more appearances before the holiday season is over.
