Warner Robins tiny home community development sees delays

Housing Authority Director Sheryl Frazier said back in August the first 15 would be finished by the end of 2019. Sewer and drain line issues caused delays.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Since August, construction on 15 tiny homes in Warner Robins has not started.

We told you the Warner Robins Housing Authority planned to bring tiny homes to the old Oscar Thomie neighborhood by the end of 2019, but so far, construction has not started.

Housing Authority Director Sheryl Frazier said sewer and drainage problems caused the delay.

Linda Thompson works at Giant Foods right next to the property and she said she's ready to see the tiny home community up and running.

"We lost a lot of homes back there from before that hurt our business, so I think it would help a lot. It would be great for the community and I'd love to see some progress made back there," said Thompson.

Originally, phase I was supposed to see 15 tiny homes built right here by the end of 2019, but because of some of those setbacks that number has been lowered to five.

Frazier said, hopefully, by the end of phase II, they'll have the full 15.

She said they hope to have the sewers and drainage for the first five in place by the end of the month.

Frazier said eventually they'd like to see a whole village of tiny homes off of North Davis Drive, 166 to be exact.

The Housing Authority and Community Development Block Grant funds from the city will pay for the first 15.

Frazier said they are working on a $5 million grant to pay for the other 150.

The homes will be open to anyone, but Frazier said the goal is to give veterans and seniors a living community where they feel safe.

She said they are not setting a new completion date because they aren't sure what roadblocks they might run into next.
