Big changes are underway for the I-16 and I-75 interchange expansion in Macon.
Every week, we're going to keep you updated on everything happening with the $500 million project and how it will affect your commute.
Our Yvonne Thomas has your interchange update.
You can see crews working in three areas this week:
Site #1 is near the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.
Site #2 is on Middle Street in the Pleasant Hill Community.
Site #3 is on the I-75 and I-16 interchange near Spring Street and Coliseum Drive.
GDOT supervisor Donald Stull says crews are building a culvert, or an open drain, on Middle Street this week. They're also clearing trees near the Ocmulgee Trail.
Stull says that crews are building a temporary pavement median on I-16 near Spring Street.
Crews plan to finish that median within the next two weeks.
Middle Street is still closed to thru traffic.
Also, the speed limit on the interchange is now 55 mph and fines for speeding are $100.
The entire seven phase project should be completed by 2024.
