'Why? Why my son?' Grieving mother searches for answers, deputies look for killer

21-year-old Daija Jordan and 23-year-old Keyon Hogan were found with gunshot wounds just after 1 a.m. in west Macon.

Early Wednesday morning, a man and woman were shot and killed outside of a home on Bloomfield Drive. According to Bibb County's Coroner Leon Jones, 21-year-old Daija Jordan and 23-year-old Keyon Hogan were found with gunshot wounds just after 1 a.m. in west Macon. These deaths mark the 13th and 14th homicides in Bibb County since January.

Yvonne Thomas spoke to Hogan's mother, Deborah, about her son's life and the moments that led up to his death. “I can’t understand why,” said Deborah Hogan. “Why my child?”

The grieving mother searches for answers as deputies look for a killer and a motive. “I was talking to my son on the phone as they shot him,”said Hogan.

Deputies say the shooting happened on the 3600 block of Bloomfield Drive just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. They say 21-year-old Daija Jordan and 23-year-old Keyon Hogan were shot multiple times and left for dead. “He said, "Mom, somebody just shot me!" I said, "Who?" He said, "I don't know." I said, "Stop panicking. Press on your wounds." And I hopped in my car and rushed over here,” said Hogan.

But in a matter of minutes, Hogan says when she couldn't hear his voice, she knew her son was gone. “He had no more words, and it just hurt so bad to see my son laying there on the ground,” said Hogan. “That was my biggest supporter, and when I'm going through, he was there anytime that I needed him. He was there. We can't get another Keyon. We can't get another Keyon."

At this time, no one is in custody for the killing of Hogan or Daija Jordan. Anyone with information on this case can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.
