The Bears will have a new quarterback calling the shots for the first time since 2013 and Mercer announced its red shirt freshman Kaelan Riley.

Riley replaces John Russ who started every game for the Bears since 2013 when Mercer's football team was reestablished. Riley looked very comfortable in the fall scrimmage finding the endzone three separate times connecting with Sam Walker twice and Tucker Cannon.

Riley was battling with for the position with red shirt junior Tanner Brumby. The Bears open up the season next Thursday at Five Star Stadium against Jacksonville.
