In the fall, Trey Grissett destroys offensive lines as a Houston County Bear defensive end, and on National Signing Day, he was awarded a scholarship to University of Alabama at Birmingham.

But in the winter, this Bear doesnt hibernate. In fact, he continues to dominate on the basketball court.

Coach Stephen Walls says, "Definitely a football player more than basketball. But he plays extremely hard, rebounds hard. He's a great defender, so he's definitely a beast down low for sure."

Like Coach Walls says, defense is Trey's specialty. He isn't much of a scorer, but with his physical presence in the paint, he offers more of an intimidation factor with double-digit rebounds and a couple of blocked shots.

"He probably averages 8 a game, but he does so much on the floor for us, it's hard to take him off," says Walls.

As a student athlete in the classroom, Trey studies and plays just as hard, knowing his success on the playing fields is based on how good his grades are.

Trey explains, "My parents are big on grades. They are always saying, 'Don't come home with Cs if I can help it,' as long as I try my best. So I just try my best to bring home As and Bs."

"Every coach we've talked to, it's always been automatic. 'What's the GPA, what's this, what's that?' and we say, 'That's not gonna be an issue for you. When he comes there he is going to be fine academically.' So that is a huge plus. On top of all the talent and size, he has the grades, and that's great for him," says Walls.

So as Trey finishes up his senior year of basketball and embarks on the next level, he has goals for the future that he plans on achieving.

"Every football player's dream is to make it to the league, and if that doesn't happen, you have to have a backup plan, because, like my parents always tell me, a degree lasts forever, but one injury can take you out the game like that," says Trey.

Walls agrees, " I think obviously the only thing Trey needs to do is pick up some weight, but once he picks up some weight, I think it's limitless what Trey can do, and if he wants to achieve that, I know Trey can."

Trey plans to major in either computer science, Homeland Security, or even criminal justice so he can become a federal agent.

The Bears are hoping to wrap up the season over 500. They are currently 7-10.
