Jared Crews walks the hallls of Veterans as a leader for the first year high school. The 6'4 230 pound junior says he loves being a trailblazer for the new school while laying a foundation in the classroom and on the athletic fields.
"We play hard each and every practice knowing we didnt have a senior class, so we stepped out there as juniors looking to get the job done," says Crews.
"Jared is an outstanding young man," says Coach Steve Ruzic. "He's a hard worker and wants to do good. He's very coachable and because he's very intelligent he's easy to coach."
Crews doubles as a Warhawk offensive lineman in the fall and a discus thrower in the spring. He knows all about being a team player and even has dreams for the future.
Crews says, "I hope to get to state my senior year and win region and hopefully our team does will and we can win as many track meets as we can."
In the classroom Crews is helpful to his fellow classmates and makes the grade to the tune of a 3.5 GPA and that makes coaches and teachers happy for the junior's success.
Ruzic says, "With leaders like Jared and some of the kids that I have, they're giving Veterans a nucleus for it to be a track team that is going to top notch and outstanding. In a few years, were going to be in every meet and with Jared and the guys leadership, we'll be there sooner than later."
Crews echoes, "I go out there and take pretty hard courses trying to challenge myself and making myself better knowing I have sports to do and other extra curricular activities."
So whatever Warhawk nation needs of Crews whether its running a lap, doing a math problem or throwing his record best. Crews says he is the man for the job.
"It's a whole team effort," boasts Crews. "Everyone one of us has a job to do so my job is to throw discus and earn points for our team."
