High schoolers that hit the mat will need to take caution when Allen Moss steps up to compete for Northeast.

The Raider went undefeated last year. That effort along with his outstanding grade point average makes him our Athlete of the Week.

Even though Allen Moss never dropped a match last season, he admits he gets butterflies every time he's up to compete.

"I get very nervous about the sport, you know, just knowing it's not dependent on a team, it's you and another person, and what I think about is, I'm not going to let them make me break," Moss said.

He doesn't like anything to get the best of him, and that includes his classwork. The guy who wants to eventually have a career in computer science carries an overall 93 average, which means he rarely makes a "B." Moss' grades have catapulted him up to the top of his junior class. Right now, he's ranked third out of 152 students. But that's not good enough for him. "Third is not what I am going for," a determined Moss said. "I was number one, but it slipped a little. As far as staying focused, I want to be better than what I am now, so basically, it's not an option. It's like more of an obligation. I want to do and be better, basically."

He wants to do better now because he knows it's not going to get easier down the road. Moss has dreams of going to the University of Georgia or Alabama. "It's just the mindset that I'm not always going to be in high school, everybody's not going to tell me what to do, I'm going to have some responsibility for myself, so getting that mindset, it's not hard, it's just difficult to come to grips knowing you had your parents telling you and soon you're going to be free," Moss explained.

You get the sense that he will be fine on his own in college.

Moss credits his high school success to two things: God, and his uncle, who he says keeps him in line. Wrestling season begins December 6th which is next Tuesday at home against Houston County at 5pm in the Raider gym.
