In the classroom, Hawkinsville running back Fabian Forrest's favorite class is math. Thats why it didnt take him long to figure out that last Friday's game was adding up to be something special. Like 329 yards kind of special on just 19 carries.
Fabian's coach Cam Black says, "He's got some of the runs by himself but he owes a lot of thanks to the offense line, they've helped him get alot of yards in these first two games."
"It didn't feel like a lot, not many," says Fabian Forrest. "But as the game was going on, people were like you have a 100 yards or you just broke a 77 yard run but I couldn't do it without my line blocking, my quarterback handing off the ball and the center having no bad snaps. I also gotta thank God for giving me the opportunity on what we got right now."
Forrest is a four-year starter with the Red Devils. He has notched three 1,000 yard seasons already under his belt and is halfway to his fourth, but Forrest and Black say stats come secondary to the team goals.
Forrest boasts, "We're 2-0 ready to be 3-0."
"All the records dont matter to me I just want a good solid win," Black echos Forrest. "We strive to be mistake-free and not do the things that hurt us like penalties or fumbles. We just try to play mistake-free and get better and better each week."
Even though Fabian's younger brother sometimes lines up with him in the backfield, the senior considers everyone on this team his family and on Friday nights, the speedy tailback who wears #5 says he works to make his family proud of his work on the field.
Coach Black couldnt agree more. "This is Fabian's best start so far. He's been real good in the classroom and has never been a discipline problem. He's really turned into a leader since we lost last year's playoff game to ECI."
And Forrest wraps it up simply, "We're going all the way this year, not looking back at it again no doubt."
Fabian and his Red Devil teammates take on Brookstone on Friday to look to stay undefeated.
