A Weaver Middle School seventh grader is expected to go before a juvenile judge Friday morning at 9, according to District Attorney Greg Winters.
The student is accused of bringing a gun to a school classroom in his shoe.
David Gowan, the school district's Director of Risk Management told us the gun was discovered around 11:30 a.m Wednesday.
A news release calls it a small-caliber handgun. While Gowan said he did not know if it was loaded or not, a Campus Police Officer told 13WMAZ it was not loaded.
The school was never put on lockdown status.
The 14-year-old male student told investigators that he found the weapon near some bushes while he was waiting for his bus to arrive.
The news release says school officials got a tip about the gun from another Bibb County School, Elam Alexander Academy. They found the teenager inside a classroom and searched him. They say they found the gun when they noticed that the student's shoe was not completely on.
There are no reported injuries.
Gowan said the male student is being held in a youth detention center.
