Macon Teen Charged With Having a Weapon at School

A random search Tuesday morning ended with a Southwest High student being arrested and charged with having a weapon on school property. 

Malcolm Houston, 17, is in custody at the Bibb County jail. According to jail records, he was arrested Tuesday around 10:40 a.m. by campus police. 

According to a news release by school officials, Houston was in possession of brass knuckles. His bond has been set at $2,400.

Authorities searched Southwest High and Appling Middle schools, using handheld metal detectors and visual inspections of bags and purses. The news release estimates about 160 students were searched.

The random searches are part of Operation Enhance School Safety.
